Introduction
The Atari 2600 VCS game console had a number of limitations for creating and running games. First, there was no GPU. Second, there was only 128 bytes of RAM. Third, the TIA chip that produced the sound was also very limited. This made development of games very challenging. I got firsthand experience dealing with the challenges of this platform when I developed Gene Medic in assembly language. That is why I was eager to watch the Ataventure demo by DMA. This demo really pushes the boundaries of what I thought the 2600 was capable of. Well worth a watch if you like the 2600.
Instructions
Links to the Ataventure demo binary are available here. This can be booted in the Stella emulator or loaded onto an SD card for booting on original hardware using a Harmony cartridge, for example, or the new 2600+ or 7800+.
