Introduction

I have previously posted about the capable Atari 7800 game console that righted some of the wrongs Atari made with the 5200. I have also previously posted about the modern Atari 2600+ that plays original cartridges and provides clear HDMI video output. Atari has followed up with a newly released 7800+ gaming console that, like the 2600+, has a smaller footprint than the original, plays both 2600 and 7800 game cartridges, and provides HDMI output. I received my 7800+ as a holiday gift to myself and have finally gotten a chance to unwrap it and give it a spin.

Instructions

You can purchase the 7800+ from Amazon for about $80. The unit comes with a new game called Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest, a wireless game pad controller, wireless dongles, and HDMI and charging cables.

Comments

I am impressed with the unit and love the HDMI output.

I am not sure why someone would want both a 2600+ and a 7800+ since they both play cartridges from each platform.

The controller feels a little cheap in my hands. Wireless is nice.

I can recommend the system especially if you do not already have a 2600+.

Below is an original 7800 Galaga cartridge running on the system with the HDMI captured by OBS.
