Read the Book “Compute’s Second Book of Atari” (2-3 hours)

Task: Read the Book “Compute’s Second Book of Atari”

Needed: Web browser or book

Time: 2-3 hours

Introduction

I previously posted about “Compute’s First Book of Atari” that was a must have in the early Atari library. Compute! magazine published several of these books including “Compute’s Second Book of Atari” that featured more articles from the magazine. This book was published in 1982 and continued with chapters on utilities, programming techniques, advanced graphics and games, and applications. Example programming pieces included page flipping and scrolling. I love having all of these Compute! articles in one place to thumb through.

Instructions

You can readily find physical copies of the book on eBay for $10 to $50. These are pretty common, and I would not pay more than $30 for it unless it is new.

You can find a PDF to read on Archive.org.

Comments

I think it is worth collecting the whole set if you can find them for $20 each or less. They don’t look very nice on the bookshelf because of the spiral binding. However, they contain a wealth of information and useful articles.

There is a “Compute’s Third Book of Atari” that was published in 1984 with even more programming tips and tricks with 800XL compatibility.
