Task: Read Creative Computing Magazine
Needed: Web browser
Time: 30-60 mins
Introduction
Creative Computing magazine was published from 1974 until 1985 and covered all of the major computing platforms including Atari. We didn’t subscribe to this one, but I do recall reading several issues we must have purchased at the bookstore. I have really enjoyed going back and reading issues from the early 1980s. Their style and content was just a little different the other magazines of the times.
Creative Computing included a regular series of Atari articles under the heading of Outpost: Atari by Paul Hoffman. Here is an article from 1981 where Hoffman calls the Atari “…one of the most popular home computers because of its advanced video capabilities”. This article talks about the display list and player-missile graphics as setting the Atari apart from its competitors.
