Task: Explore the Atari 8-bit Software Preservation Initiative
Needed: A web browserÂ
Time: 15-30 mins
Introduction
One of the great aspects of the Atari hobby is that there is tons of archived software online and freely available for download for use on an emulator or original hardware. Have you ever wondered where all the software came from? Who took the effort to extract or dump it from the original media and release it in digital form? The Atari 8-bit Software Preservation Initiative or A8SP has been actively gathering and releasing Atari software for years now. The good news for us that all of this software is available for download online. As of this posting, they claim to have over 5000 unique titles, over 8000 releases, and over 5000 dumps. An impressive collection!
