Task: Purchase New Power Supplies
Needed: Web browser
Time: 5-10 minutes
Introduction
I have previously posted about the need to go through your collection and purge dangerous power supplies that can fail and take your Atari out. Further, you may not trust the ones that are acceptable to use because, let’s face it, they are 30-40 years old. An additional concern that some have is that the old power supplies are big and heavy. Fortunately, you can purchase brand new power supplies that are compatible with many of the Atari video game consoles and 8-bit computers. These are lighter, smaller, and likely much more reliable.
Instructions
There are several sources of new power supplies. You can get 5V power supplies that work with the 600XL, 800XL, 65XE, 130XE, and XEGS from 8-bit Classics ($14.99) and Lotharek ($23.99). The ones from Lotharek are nice, but are more expensive and require a PC power cable to plug into the outlet. This is the one I have (see photo below).
I have seen these listed on Amazon ($20.99) for the Atari 400, 800, 810, 822, 850, 1010, 1200XL, 1020, 1050, and XF551 but have not tried it. Walmart sells the same on for $16.99. Here is another brand for the same thing on Amazon ($34.98).
There are a number of different new Atari 2600 power supplies on Amazon. I won’t list them all here. I have not tried these. They sell for about $5 to $10 each.
There are several different power supplies for the Atari 5200 and 7800 on Amazon. These sell for about $10 to $15.

Comments
This seems like a good investment. At the very least, it is nice to know they are out there in case they are needed.
