Task: Read the Book “Atari Inc.: Business if Fun”

Needed: “Atari Inc.” book

Time: 10-15 hours

Introduction

This book is a tour de force in Atari stories and history and is a must-have for any Atari enthusiast bookshelf. As Curt Vendel states in the Foreword, the stories behind Atari are as important as the products themselves. Atari is an amazing story from start to finish. The people that created and drove Atari to the most important video game company of its time all have wonderful stories to tell.

This book covers the early history of Atari up through the mid-1980s. This was the time period when the Atari 2600 console was released as well as the Atari 8-bit computers. The book was purposefully written in a very informal style that makes it easy and fun to read. In addition to the great historical accounts and stories, there are lots of photos and scans of rare documents you will not find on the web. These are tons of fun to look at.

Comments

Note that much of the book focuses on the early days of Atari. There is a bit less on the home consoles and computers. Thanks to Goldberg and Vendel for all their hard work to assemble and synthesize all of this information. It is very much appreciated!

RIP Curt Vendel
