Task: Explore the Serious Computerist Web Page

Needed: Web browser

Time: 15-30 mins

Introduction

I recently came across The Serious Computerist web page that is full of useful documents on Atari 8-bit computers. It is well worth exploring to see what is there. The page is dedicated to Bill Wilkerson who was one of the founder of Optimized Systems Software (OSS) that developed and released a number of very popular software packages including BASIC XL and Mac/65. They also developed the Action! programming language. The page is also dedicated to Frank Ostrowski who created the popular Turbo BASIC XL that is still used today by many Atari enthusiasts. The web page has a curated set of useful documents including technical references, books such as Mapping the Atari, magazines such as ANALOG, and OSS references for Mac/65.

This is by no means a comprehensive resource of Atari 8-bit computer materials. However, almost all of what is here is essential reading for the serious Atari 8-bit programmer. It is all nicely designed and intuitively presented. There is even a nice updates page so you can see what is new. You can also download zip files with collections of PDFs. Our community needs more resources like this!
